IntelliCAD 10.1 User Guides Available for Download and Print

IntelliCAD book cover.jpgDevelopers who are taking an initial look at various CAD platforms can find it helpful to see user interfaces and what they're capable of. One option for finding out more about IntelliCAD is to take a look at the Using IntelliCAD guide available at lulu.com.

Using IntelliCAD describes how to use IntelliCAD to draw in 2D and 3D, view drawings, dimension entities, work with layers, insert blocks and external references, add custom programs, and everything else you expect from a CAD program.

The guides are available for a small fee. Note that if you're purchasing a printed copy, you need to purchase both Volume 1 and Volume 2 to complete the book.

The IntelliCAD Technology Consortium Announces IntelliCAD® 10.1

IntelliCAD 10.1

The IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (ITC) today announced the release of IntelliCAD 10.1.

IntelliCAD 10.1 is a major release that includes significant performance improvements and new features.

IntelliCAD 10.1 is up to seven times faster when selecting entities and two times faster for grip editing, grip displaying, entity snapping, and drawing regenerating.

New features include the ability to insert and work with geographic maps, restore default program settings from the operating system Start menu, create and edit tables and table styles, create and edit sheet sets, insert dynamic blocks, import .pdf files with more advanced options, import point data from .csv and .txt files, and import map files (.shp, .sdf, .sqlite files). Also included is integration with 3Dconnexion input devices for streamlining the CAD drawing experience.

More features that have a big efficiency boost for end users are smooth view transitions, entity cloning, dimension breaking, quick groups, advanced grips for blocks and groups, the Layer Previous command, the ability to turn off entity movement when clicking and dragging the mouse, and the ability to restore a layer state to the current viewport, all viewports, all layouts and viewports, or the Model tab. Additionally, the new Rectangular Array, Polar Array, Path Array, and Edit Array commands provide more functionality for arraying entities than in previous releases.

For versions of IntelliCAD that work with BIM files, import Autodesk® Revit® 2021 files, specify AEC drawing units, convert an existing entity to a beam path, and determine the smoothness (level of detail) of curves in BIM underlays created from .rvt files.

For versions of IntelliCAD that open, save, and edit .dgn files in their native format, open and regenerate files using multi-threading, use multi-model support, cross-reference external references from one model to another, use DGN global origin, create .dgn drawings using new 2D file templates, create 2D objects in 2D models, and open and save external color tables (.tbl files). The supported command set also now includes Layout, Spell, Find, Clip Xref, Purge and -Purge, and Edit Attribute commands.

For technical users, IntelliCAD 10.1 incorporates ODA SDKs version 2021.11, .NET version 4.8, and an initial implementation of CAcUiDialog.

Other improvements and fixes are found throughout the product in editing and selecting entities, layers, text, the user interface, and more.

Damiano Croci, COO of ProgeSoft, commented, “This version is fantastic, in all drawings there is a noticeable improvement in zoom and pan. We will now be competitive with Autodesk® AutoCAD® and other CADs.”

David Lorenzo, ITC President, stated, “Our members asked for a faster CAD engine, and that’s what IntelliCAD 10.1 delivers. Our new performance benchmark is exceptionally competitive, while at the same time our open CAD platform continues its non-compete guarantee to ITC members, meaning that we never move into vertical markets. We can’t wait for consumers to experience our members’ products based on IntelliCAD 10.1.”

IntelliCAD 10.1 is supported on Microsoft® Windows® 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7 64-bit versions. IntelliCAD Mobile Viewer versions are available for Windows desktop, Google® Android™, Apple® macOS® and iOS.

Interested IntelliCAD users can contact ITC members to receive details about availability of IntelliCAD software.

IntelliCAD Technology Consortium and 3Dconnexion Announce Integration Partnership Streamlining the CAD Workflow

IntelliCAD-SpaceMouse Desktop Front

IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (ITC), developer of one of the most popular platforms in the CAD industry, and 3Dconnexion, the industry standard for CAD input devices, announce the availability of an integration between software and hardware to streamline the CAD workflow and improve control and efficiency in the IntelliCAD framework.

The direct integration between IntelliCAD’s software platform and 3Dconnexion’s award-winning CadMouse and SpaceMouse products improves CAD engineer efficiency by 28% per hour with advanced features such as a dedicated middle mouse button for smooth, intuitive navigation.

CAD modeling software is growing more sophisticated to keep pace with the progress of technology. Some of the most powerful platforms in this space, such as IntelliCAD, contain over 1,000 unique commands. To help CAD engineers leverage this, they rely on modern engineering workspaces. This trend toward intuitive CAD software supported with professional input devices that offer more accurate and efficient workflows benefits organizations by providing improved product quality and faster time-to-market.

For organizations with time-sensitive projects, leveraging professional input devices can speed up development times dramatically. The integration between IntelliCAD and 3Dconnexion provides end users with effortless navigation, including QuickZoom functionality, extensive customization options, unlimited command access that switches dynamically with environments, radial menus, macros, and much more. All this with peace of mind knowing that all future 3Dconnexion devices will also be compatible with IntelliCAD.

President of IntelliCAD Technology Consortium, David Lorenzo stated, “We create intuitive software, but in the end, ease-of-use comes down to how users interact with their input devices. We have been working within the limitations of standard keyboards and mice for years, and our members are excited that 3Dconnexion is creating innovative input devices specifically for CAD users and 3D modeling. Our partnership with 3Dconnexion ensures a solid implementation for their current devices and the opportunity for us to innovate with them on future devices.”

Jason Poitras, General Manager of MicroSurvey Software, a part of the Hexagon Group and an ITC member tells, “This will be a great addition to IntelliCAD and I’m looking forward to using it to navigate 3D models and environments in our IntelliCAD based solutions MicroSurvey CAD and Leica Geosystems Map360.”

ITC Chairperson and CEO of CAD-Manufacturing Systems, Inc., Vitor Neves shares, "CMS IntelliCAD software users will have the option to use and enjoy the state-of-the-art 3D mouse technology for modeling and, consequently, increase their productivity immensely. 2D users can gain productivity too using the 3Dconnexion CadMouse with high precision control and five programmable buttons."

This integration was developed by IntelliCAD in partnership with 3Dconnexion, using the freely available 3Dconnexion Software Development Kit (SDK). IntelliCAD will offer the integration as part of their standard build starting with the 2021 release of IntelliCAD version 10.1. For device selection and availability, please visit 3Dconnexion.com.
