IDEA from 4M Solutions is a BIM application for architectural design built on top of IntelliCAD®, which is best known as the low-cost alternative to Autodesk® AutoCAD®. The development of IntelliCAD is regulated by the IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (ITC), which does not market or sell IntelliCAD itself but, instead, grants access to the source code of IntelliCAD to commercial and non-commercial members. The commercial members pay a fee to join the ITC and can develop and sell commercial versions of IntelliCAD, while non-commercial members can freely use the IntelliCAD source code for internal or academic use. All members are required to submit the fixes and improvements that they make to the product back to the consortium. Thus the development of IntelliCAD is distributed across developers from different organizations, making this joint effort truly unique in contrast to other strictly proprietary CAD software products developed by individual vendors. IntelliCAD is currently in version 6.6, with a beta of version 7.0 currently being tested by ITC members.There are a large number of commercial companies world-wide who are members of the ITC and supply and support retail versions of IntelliCAD. 4M was established in 1986 with the objective of providing the engineering community with advanced CAD verticals. It now has a wide range of solutions for all the building design disciplines including architecture, structure, and building services (HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing, referred to as MEP in the US). All of these are built on top of IntelliCAD and include 4M FINE for building services, IDEA for architectural design including model creation, rendering, and virtual walkthrough, STRAD for structural analysis and design of 3D concrete frames, STEEL for analysis and design of steel structures, and some additional specialized applications. April 19, 2010 - Portland, Oregon, The IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (ITC) has successfully obtained a judgment against CADopia, Inc. for approximately $100,000 in past due membership fees and legal costs, plus a court injunction prohibiting CADopia from illegally using the IntelliCAD source code and Trademarks.  The IntelliCAD Technology Consortium was forced into this action due to the continued sale and promotion of CADopia software, after CADopia, Inc. was legally terminated from the ITC for nonpayment of membership fees.  CADopia's membership fees fell into arrears in 2008.

CADopia's internet service provider has complied with the court order and has deactivated the CADopia web site.  The ITC intends to seek payment of the approximate $100,000 judgment from CADopia by collecting from any parties with debts owing to CADopia, Inc. 

The IntelliCAD Technology Consortium develops the base software used by members worldwide to create retail versions of IntelliCAD and IntelliCAD powered vertical applications.  The Consortium members will continue to aggressively protect the intellectual property of the Consortium from illegal use or any illegal attempt to create derivative products from the IntelliCAD source code.

Portland, OR., USA, February 10, 2010 - The IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (ITC) today announced a Beta2 release for ITC members of the all-new IntelliCAD 7 CAD software incorporating a new software architecture designed to optimize the core data import/export and application programming functions critical to users of the IntelliCAD CAD platform. The IntelliCAD 7 architecture uses the Open Design Alliance (ODA) platform, previously known as DWGdirect, as its internal database for improved handling of .dwg files. For companies building custom applications, IntelliCAD 7 also offers the powerful DRX object oriented application programming language (API) developed by the Open Design Alliance (ODA) with custom IRX extensions specific to the IntelliCAD platform.

The IntelliCAD platform, combined with ITC member solutions is being used by thousands of companies for creating engineering and design documents from the simplest 2D room design to the most complex 3D plant construction and BIM analysis. The new enhancements to the core IntelliCAD product offer architects and engineers an enhanced user experience through an improved user interface, more efficient drawing handling and improved product quality.

Founded in 1999, the ITC is an organization of like minded software development companies that focus on the development of a computer aided design ("CAD") platform designed to be integrated into member applications for use by engineers, surveyors, architects, designers, and drafters. Members of the ITC pay an annual fee for a license to distribute the IntelliCAD software as part of their product offering. As a result, the IntelliCAD mark has become very well-known in the CAD industry and has strong goodwill associated with it.

In October 1999, CADopia signed one of the first commercial member contracts to join the ITC and resell IntelliCAD under the brand name CADopia. During the next ten years, CADopia became one of the more well-known products based on IntelliCAD. CADopia founder and CEO, Surya Sarda was very active in the management of the ITC, serving as ITC president from 2001 to 2004, ITC Development Manager from 2002 to 2004, and ITC Board Member from 2001 to 2007.

In late 2008, CADopia failed to pay the annual license fee to continue licensing and distributing IntelliCAD. The ITC made repeated attempts to work with CADopia to resolve the outstanding balance, but CADopia did not pay the balance due for the remainder of 2008 and 2009. The ITC finally terminated CADopia's ITC membership in May of 2009.

The ITC member contract stipulates that when a member is terminated, that member must immediately stop using IntelliCAD trademarks and recall all products bearing the trademarks from its distributors. Despite repeated requests from the ITC for CADopia to discontinue selling the IntelliCAD based product, CADopia continues to advertise the CADopia product and to use the IntelliCAD marks on their commercial web site and online store.

The complaint filed by the ITC seeks, among other things, to enjoin CADopia's infringing actions and that the ITC be awarded damages and attorneys' fees.

The ITC is a unique organization whose member companies jointly contribute to the development of the IntelliCAD CAD platform. During the research and development of the new IntelliCAD release 6.6, development teams from several ITC members cooperated to design the new high performance algorithms that boost the efficiency of all member products.

The IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (ITC) (http://www.intellicad.org/) announces the election of Robert McGill as ITC President and Cliff Petersohn as ITC Chairman of the Board. These elections took place at the recent annual ITC Board of Directors meeting in Leiden, The Netherlands.

Mr. McGill comes to the ITC having held senior management roles at SolidWorks, CAMAX, CADAM and Computervision. He is a strong proponent of component software and partnering to accelerate technology. Mr. McGill joined the ITC in 2008 as Business Development Director, responsible for increasing the number of vertical applications on the IntelliCAD platform and improving the marketing reach of the ITC. "Our focus at the ITC is to deliver a top quality IntelliCAD product and to work with our members to maximize their success," stated Mr. McGill.

Mr. Petersohn is a senior development manager with Carlson Software, a leader in surveying and civil engineering software. Mr. Petersohn is a noted expert in CAD and GIS system platforms including client-server architectures. Mr. Petersohn has served on the Board of Directors of the ITC since October 2008.
